To Clean your Barbecue:
If you run a gas barbecue for about 15 minutes at the highest heat setting - after you finish cooking - it should look reasonably clean but may still need some wire brushing to get rid of any heavy residue. When using a charcoal barbecue, let the grill stand over the coals for about 20 minutes after cooking to achieve similar results. Any remaining baked-on dirt should yield to wire brush or to an abrasive powdered cleaner. Finally, take a old rag and a bucket of hot soapy water and clean every surface of the grill both inside and out. I even wipe down the propane tank and hoses as well.

To Store your Barbecue:
There are just a few things that you should really do to make sure that your grill is ready for the winter and ensure a smooth transition to delicious barbecue when it starts to warm up in the spring.

  • Start by thoroughly cleaning your grill as instructed above.
  • Let your grill dry completely before storing it. There is nothing worse than taking your cover off of your grill in the spring and finding it completely rusted. Help avoid that by storing the grill completely dry.
  • Refer to your owners manual that came with your grill (or find a copy on your grill manufactures website). Some manufacturers recommend that you wipe down parts of your grill with a light coating of oil to help avoid rust. But others don’t recommend it at all. Make sure that you follow your manufacturers recommendations so you don’t void your grill’s warranty.
  • Take the opportunity to fix anything wrong with your grill. Make sure all hoses are not aging and have no cracks. Clean all the burnt food off of the elements in the grill and if they are cracked or rusted, order new burners from your grill manufacturer. Fix handles, temperature gauges, etc. anything that will slow you down from a running start in the spring.
  • If possible, store your grill inside in a dry location. A garage, storage room, closet, or even a shed is perfect. If you can’t store it inside, storing it in a covered location to keep the rain off the grill is much better than nothing.
  • Purchase a good grill cover to keep the dirt and rain from accumulating on the grill. If you are using a grill cover from last year, make sure that it is still in good condition and has no tears or holes. If there are problems, buy a new cover. It is much better to spend $30-$40 on a new cover than $300-$400 on a new grill next year because your grill is rusted out.

Taking good care of your grill during the winter months will provide years of extra life to the grill and ensure many seasons of fond family memories.

The modern holiday of Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes regarded as the “Celtic New Year”. Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, where the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.

Labor Day is a national legal holiday that is over 100 years old. Over the years, it has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general “last fling of summer” festival.
It grew out of a celebration and parade in honor of the working class by the Knights of Labor in 1882 in New York. In 1884, the Knights held a large parade in New York City celebrating the working class. The parade was held on the first Monday in September. The Knights passed a resolution to hold all future parades on the same day, designated by them as Labor Day.

De-Clutter your Life!

Getting rid of clutter doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process. You can complete this entire list of clutter-reducing projects in an hour or less.

  • Toss 10 : Grab a trash bag. Find ten items in your home that you no longer need or want and put them in the bag. Toss the bag in the trash or put it in your donation box, and never look back.
  • Clear a surface : Find at least one cluttered surface, like a coffee table or dresser top, and completely clear it of all clutter—swiftly dumping any trash.
  • Toss old magazines : Go through your home and gather any old magazines or newspapers you’ve already flipped through. Recycle or donate them today.
  • Weed out five : The thought of weeding out your entire filing system may seem daunting, but anyone can weed out just five file folders.
  • Pick through a junk drawer : Whatever you can’t identify or is clearly junk (meaning you’ll never use it) gets tossed.
  • Toss anything expired : Go through your fridge and medicine  cabinet, gathering anything perishable that has expired.

A good day to do this is on garbage day, so you can hand off what you’ve collected to the trash collector.

Cleaning Tips
Ring around the collar

Dirty neck rings around shirt or blouse collars can be removed by putting shampoo on them. Rub the shampoo in like you were washing your hair. Shampoo is specifically made to remove body oils. A cheap bottle of shampoo kept by the washing machine is handy for all kinds of stains in clothing. Don’t forget this trick when you are traveling.

Peach Parfaits

  • One 3 ounce package cream cheese
  • 1-cup plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup sugar or Splenda
  • 6-8 medium peaches
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped almonds

Pit and slice peaches.

Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar and refrigerate for at least an hour.

In a small mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, yogurt and the 1/4 cup sugar until smooth.

Spoon alternate layers of yogurt mixture and peaches into 6 parfait glasses.

Top with almonds. Serves 6

August is the height of the summer time in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. The longest day of the year is passed, but the hot days remain. In the northern regions and mountains, cool nights and early frosts lets one know that the summer is about to come to an end. In the Southern Hemisphere, August means the winter will soon be over. The birds are already planning to fly south for the winter. The insects are noisier and numerous than in any other month. This is perhaps the busiest month for businesses, since most people take their vacations in August.

Never Clean Again is going Green!

We are currently testing and changing out our current product line for environmentally safe products that will be better for your home and our cleaning staff!

Here is how you can save energy and cash while helping the planet!

Cool and easy: Air conditioning can offer much-needed respite from the heat and can make sweaty nights bearable, but be sensitive to overuse. Turning up the thermostat a few degrees on your AC is a great way to save tons of cash while making the planet a cooler place at the same time.

Wet and wise: Watch your water usage levels. Water plants only when necessary, and take a few minutes to install a low-flow showerhead. Simple steps can make a big difference.

The green plate special: Use reusable dishes rather than plastics or Styrofoam. If you absolutely must use disposables, make sure to pick up compostable varieties beforehand to put in the compost bin when you’re through.

Use your grill: Love to BBQ? Propane burns much cleaner than either wood or charcoal briquettes. If you can’t resist charcoal, try a natural product like those produced by Cowboy Charcoal—much cleaner than your traditional briquettes.

The local roundup: Buy food locally. Farmers’ markets are great places to shop, and ensure that the veggies you’re eating haven’t traveled thousands of miles just to reach your plate. That cuts down on the use of fossil fuels, which leads to significantly reduced levels of pollution and resource depletion over your typical tomato bought at the local supermarket.

In addition to remembrance, Memorial Day is also a time for picnics, family gatherings, and sporting events. Some Americans also view Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of summer and Labor Day as the unofficial end of the season. The national Click it or ticket campaign ramps up beginning Memorial Day weekend, noting the beginning of the most dangerous season for auto accidents and other safety related incidents. The USAF “101 Critical days of summer” begin on this day as well. Some Americans use Memorial Day to also honor any family members who have died, not just servicemen.

Prank:  The prankster need only find a rubber band, wait for a moment when the kitchen is empty, and then slip the rubber band over the sink sprayer handle so that it is stuck in the on position. Carefully aim the nozzle so that it sprays out–onto anybody who turns on the faucet.
The origin of April Fool’s Day remains clouded in obscurity. Basically no one knows exactly where, when, or why the celebration began. What we do know is that references to ‘All Fool’s Day’ (what April Fool’s Day was first called) began to appear in Europe during the late Middle Ages. All Fool’s Day was a folk celebration and elite participation in it was minimal (which is why it’s so difficult to trace the exact origin of the day, because the people celebrating it back then weren’t the kind of people who kept records of what they did). But what is clear is that the tradition of a day devoted to foolery has ancient roots. As we look back in time we find many ancient predecessors of April Fool’s Day.

Celebrate the Spring Season
The season of spring as a harbinger of joy is a metaphor common to most civilizations. In India, too, March is a beautiful month when  the wintry sun begins to turn warm and the days get longer, not to mention the flowers blooming in full splendor.
It is in this month that the Festival of Holi is celebrated. Historically speaking Holi is probably a pagan festival that finds root in celebrations similar to that of Valentine’s Day.
Both find their source in fertility rituals and symbolize unbridled joy. All over the east, the manner of celebrating this festival has been to smear each other’s face with rice powder, where rice powder is symbolic of fertility. Today, however, the northern part of India has incorporated many other influences turning Holi into a colorful and even sophisticated festival, as it was played by the royalty of Rajasthan.
